Rainforest & Beach TourA small sample of what can easily be seen within an hour's drive of Auckland City!
Tour Description & Details
In 30 minutes, this custom guided tour will take you from the hustle of central Auckland to the amazing natural habitat of the Waitakere Ranges, serene rainforests, and volcanic black sand beaches.
First stop will be the Arataki Visitor Centre which nestles high up in the Waitakere Ranges offering expansive panoramic views to the Manukau Harbour in the South and the Waitemata Harbour in the North. Learn about the unique fauna and flora of this Regional Park, and the significance of the huge Māori totem that overlooks the Centre.
Take an easy walk from the Centre into the lush rainforest where you will be surrounded by giant tree ferns and pristine streams tinkling through the wilderness. Also, see some of NZ’s famous Kauri trees, the history of which your guide will tell you all about.
Moving a little further west, your guide will take you down to a spectacular black sand beach at Karekare – this is where a haunting scene from the movie “The Piano” was filmed!
To end the day, a short walk up from this beach your guide will reveal the magical beauty of the Karekare Falls, a little-known gem where you can swim in the cool waters of the pool and get some wonderful photos for your album! This half day tour includes afternoon tea and snacks for your pleasure.
Suggestion: If your group would like to be guided for the whole day, you can add the City of Sails Tour in the morning and book the City and Bush Tour as one full day adventure.
